Beskrivelse
Out of the Box: Innovative Editorial Formats in Social and Human Sciences
Call for Participants
Organizers: Luca Tateo and Pina Marsico
Objective
The workshop aims to explore the relations between the development of ideas and publishing formats in the future. International publishers, experienced and early-stage researchers will together develop innovations in supporting new and non-reproductive ideas through new formats.
The contemporary arena of academic publishing in social and human sciences is characterised by the flourishing of publication media and the quantification of knowledge-representation (IF, H-index, etc.) that demand ‘groundbreaking’ contributions to the ‘literature’, an ill-defined semantic field, bounded by reduced heterogeneity in the development of new ideas and a within rigidity of field by ‘border controllers’ (rejection rate, etc.). The workshop is precisely focused on what is not-yet-literature, but will potentially become the ideas of the future.
The workshop will be a collaborative space to:
Bring, share and develop ‘out-of-the-box’ and even visionary ideas and concepts of formats
Innovate existing formats to support the development of innovation
Establish international and interdisciplinary collaborative projects
Activities
The workshop will take place at the Niels Bohr Centre for Cultural Psychology, Kroghstræde 3, Room 4.117, Aalborg University, 5 October 2017 from 14.00 to 18.00. The activities will include short introductions by the publishers envisioning the future of the academic landscape, a round table between publishers and researchers to develop joint new editorial projects. The participating publishers will be: Springer, Routledge and Info Age. After the workshop, the discussion will continue during a social dinner.
Registration
The workshop is open to a limited number of scholars (around 25-30). It is possible to apply by sending a short bio and a description of the ideas to develop (300 words) to the organisers (luca@hum.aau.dk) by August 30, 2017. Participants will be exclusively selected against the following criteria:
Innovative nature of the ideas
Interdisciplinary, collaborative and international nature of the ideas.
