Duty vs. Desire: Internalization of Role-related Expectations over Development among Indian and American Children and Their Parents
The Centre for Cultural Psychology invites colleagues and students to the seminar "Duty vs. Desire: Internalization of Role-related Expectations over Development among Indian and American Children and Their Parents".
Namrata Goyal, from the New School for Social Research of New York, will present her current research activity about the developmental trajectories of Indian and American children with respect to the cultural differences related to the internalization of role-related expectations. The study questions assumptions about the universality of the tension between societal expectations and autonomy by demonstrating how one’s motivational stance toward fulfilling social obligations develops in ways that are shaped by culture.
The seminar is organized within the project “The Administration of Fear: Using Art to Study Psycho-social Phenomena”, funded by the Network Programme Grant from the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.
